Driving and regen braking

Driving my EV6 is just like driving any other push-to-start vehicle.

In order to start the car and drive:

  1. Press and hold the brake
  2. Push the power button located in the center console
  3. Use the dial shifter also located in the center console to shift into drive. Firmly turn it all the way to the right towards the D to shift it into drive.
  4. Release the brake to start creeping forward.

Important: Use the paddles on the steering wheel to control the amount of regenerative braking. If you're not used to regenerative braking, I suggest turning it off by:

  1. Holding the brake
  2. Putting it in drive
  3. Pressing the right paddle a few times until it says "Lvl 0" in the bottom right corner of the infotainment screen

Alternatively, you an active "i-Pedal" mode (one pedal driving) by doing the same as above but pressing the left paddle until it says "MAX". Note: iPedal mode will turn off after reversing.

Driving modes

To change the drive mode, simply press the drive mode button while the car is on. You can switch between Eco, Normal, and Sport modes by pressing this button. You can also hold the button for a safer driving mode for Snow.

Caution: the acceleration is much greater in sport mode!

Illinois Tollway

I have the car enrolled in the Illinois Tollway pay-by-plate program. Feel free to drive on the tollway as you normally would. Any tools I receive on my account I'll add to your trip.

Note: I don't have any other passes for any other tollway system.

Smart cruise control with OpenPilot

This car is equipped with an advanced driver assistant powered by OpenPilot.

When engaged, OpenPilot will:

  • Keep the car centered in the lane
  • Keep a set follow distance away from the leading car
  • Handle limited stop and go

IMPORTANT: The cruise control is so good, you may thing the car can drive itself. This is not true. You must pay attention at all times!

The driver assistance device includes a front-facing camera that is used to track your head movements and disengage the smart cruise control if it detects you are not paying attention.

How to use the smart cruise control:

  • While driving, press the button on upper left of the steering wheel. This will engage the cruise control at the current speed you're traveling at.
  • Press the directional buttons up or down to adjust the max speed. Hold to adjust in increments of 5 mph.
  • Pressing in to the directional buttons will disengage the cruise control. Pressing it again will re-engage the cruise control at your previous set speed.
  • Note: any time the brake is pressed, the cruise control will disengage.
